My Restoration
Великобритания
Добавлен 1 авг 2007
The home of motorcycle restoration.
For years I have been restoring things outside of RUclips. I was advised that if I was happy to carry a camera around I could create my own channel to share what I do with others. I am simply an enthusiast! That is the key.
I restore many different types of objects from musical instruments to large format recording consoles, horology and just about anything with an engine. I have a real job as owner of Carbon bike Repair.
I like going in-depth into a project. If it is a grand piano or a Rolex then I am going to study it so it gets restored correctly as I understand it. I have the desire to learn how things work. I appreciate even more, the skills that some artisans posses as I do not pretend to compete.
I have an industrial design qualification which I suppose helps to understand the workings of the manufacture element of the restoration. So enjoy seeing things come back to life as I do.
Happy viewing!

Make the videos longer please 😢 I’m loving your videos ❤
Yes, Iv been waiting for a new upload ❤❤❤
Great viseo! What is happening with the Norton?
Thank you. Awaiting parts but not too far to go.
An inspiration, thank you.
Fork race installer for installing fork seals, nice 👍
You're attention to detail is awesome bra, I love your videos!...greetings again from Hungary.🤠😁👍
Loving the content!
Howzit.. Great show my China...
Got to be a Safa!
Absolutely impressed! Down to the factory warning labels and decals! Bravo!
I recently purchased a Matchless Model X. It has an inoperative Smiths M2 clock. The winder mechanism appears broken and is on the back side of the clock. Your video tells me that I should have an M3 clock with the winder on the side at about the 4:00 0'clock position. Can you be of any assistance? Trade?
Hello Mark, yes this clock is a bit harder to find unfortunately I only have the fatter body one. If you want me to look at it for you you can find my contact details on about me. Send some pics in your email. Cheers to Friday
I sold my cr500 1989 for £750 back in 1997 thank god i’ve owned and raced one of these beautiful machines because these days just turn into a money pit alone with massive profits, human greed 😠🤷♂️
This is amazing! True talent and craftsmanship! You can be proud!!!
Fantastic to see so much care taken to renew these beautiful machines! Awesome job. From one Saffer to another and a VFR fan - keep up the great work Bru - subscribed!!
Lekker boet. I’ll check out your channel!
I didn't have time yet to do the valve clearance/ adjustments but i my issue is that the vaccum for #2 cylinder cannot increase more than 1.6 cmhg to be as the same valvue of the #1 of 2.1. I can decrease it but not increase it, so i'm assuming could be a valve clearance/shim/burnt valve issue. Before going on and doing like the video, i want to confirm that this could one of the solutions. Also, how diffcult is for a guy that's didn't do this procedure before? I'm aware i have to extra-mega-careful with everything but none of the mechanics from my area are willing to do it as it's not rentable for them. Any advice if it's worth doing this for a 50k bike and most probably the previous owner didn't did it ?
Love your vids thanks
Martin, a very nice guy, really knowledgeable.
Thanks Michael appreciate that !! Have you got any projects on the go right now ! Or are you interested in trying to win the RM500?
@@Widowmakertrader No projects Martin, just enjoying the great restoration work and fantastic bikes like the RM. I'm going to check out your website. Thanks for the reply. 👍
Finished a race resto on mine about 6 months ago ( covid project ) and yours actually looks more complete than the basket case I paid too much for . You're in for a wild ride bro , and that's before ya even get to start it for the first time ... ( Race resto means immaculate but not original cause they were , umm , a wee bit crap even in 1982 )
Great video mate, when is the next rebuilding video?
I’ve nearly got enough for another 250 video. Waiting on fork seals then a go. Probably next weekend 👍
Ok 👍🏼 look forward to it. I’m loving the content. I’m in the Uk but originally from South Africa 🇿🇦 I can hear your accent ❤

My only thing don't use red lock tite you'll never get it apart
I just love these videos so much. What is your favourite thing to fix on a motorbike? I really like installing bearings :)
My nerves..😬
Quality workmanship and great attention to detail, only thing I’d say is try making the videos longer lol I need my fix 😂
Noted!
Hey man! Everyone makes mistakes and there are so many moving parts and a lot going on in one’s mind while assembling an engine. The good this is you caught your mistakes before it was too late. Good on yah for keeping your cool as well I counted 3 times I think you had to separate the cases. Can’t wait for next week’s video!
Really enjoy all of your videos, thank you for making them! Cheers from Canada
Two strokes are a bit of a mystery to me so I wouldn’t have picked up on the seal orientation. I’m liking the single piston ring though. That’s very different to easing in multiple rings on multiple cylinders. Another great video Rob
Really like your videos! All the little details. Without sounding like a keyboard worrior, it looks like you are using that wera torque wrench to its full potential. I was tought to use a plain breaker bar to loossen really tight stuff. And keep the torque wrench just for tightening to the required torque. Just sharing what i know! Keep it up! Cheers from the Netherlands
LocTite 271? I hope you don’t plan on removing any of those fasteners. 😂
They will come out. Been in and out too many times to take a risk but what do I know you might be right buddy
I said the same thing
Nice build!
I like to practice with chainsaws and outboards. At 12:33 I couldn't help but think that oring should have gone inside the groove of the steel spacer. Also, the wear marks on the spacer are odd... might it actually be installed the other way round?
If you rewind you will see another o ring inside. 👍
Your such a amateur 😂
😂
The air in the crank area is actually at a low pressure as air is pulled through the intake ports and into the combustion chamber as the piston moves down. The crank seals keep air (and oil on the clutch side) from being sucked in. That’s why when crank seals wear out, engines runaway with an extremely lean condition, and/or burn transmission oil. Great video though, I really enjoy your work!
Thanks Joe. That make a sense. Of course it’s low pressure in the chamber. I just wonder why Suzuki do it differently?
@@MyRestoration1 I’d love to know too! My 1988 RM250 is the same way. I initially put mine in backwards.
Fantastic detail and work, high standards as usual with clear explanations. ❤
Can’t wait to see the finished restoration! Glad to see I’m not the only one who makes those “schoolboy mistakes” that require a big gulp of humility and another tear down 😅
Brilliant job of doing the bike I am currently taking on a job to restore one for a friend would it be possible for you to to all the oem stickers for the bike and ship them to me thanks Tom
Pm me Thomas. I’ll have to look for them..
Guzzies are unique and a LM1 is a special bike. Great restoration and its excellent that the bike gets to live on.
Hi Rob! Great video! Can you tell me where I can buy the fuel pressure regulator. Thanks!
No problem. I can’t remember. It was a Honda supply on line.
Finally a restoration that I"m NOT pissed off about after I watch it! I get so sick of these complete tear downs, where they strip the paint and old chrome, do some sanding, fill me with hope because they've made a great start, and then they put new paint over all the pitted metal they've failed to sand out or even fill and sand. And then have the gall to paint that stupid aluminum paint over the chrome or engine parts that would have been so easy to buff to a brilliant honest metal sheen. Thank you!
Oh that’s funny 😆. You forgot to mention the mud covered rust buckets that look like they just found them..oh well I am glad you found a RUclips restoration‘sanctuary’. You sound fairly hands on yourself! Thanks for the encouragement. This is an outstanding comment. Very true and funny 👍
@@MyRestoration1 I went to a museum restoration of a steam engine. Something this museum paid thousands for.. and I called the museum and asked to speak with the curator.. long story short.. They confirmed they put it together wrong, called them back after visiting again, and the answer was Yes you are correct but it costs too much for us to change it... he he he This is a steam engine that couldn't possibly work.. in a museum thats supposed to teach how things are done
@@CrybabyArtistthat’s mad..what is the point as you say..I’ll live in my uneconomical world and restore till they are back the way the designer intended..

I don’t know but on and off 6 months
Your one of the few that truly restores. You don't farm the project out and have excellent skills. Well done!
Thank you. Keeps me trying. Appreciated!
Enjoying your videos. Listening to you I originally thought you were doing the restorations in SA! Ex Durbs living in Oz.
Cheers Mike. I’m in England. 30 years now. Good old SA days. I remember being on army pass getting to the beach front. The rest is history. Nice one 👍
Wow, not just a parts changer but true restoration, much respect fine sir.
When is the next video on the Suzuki
I’ve got a bit more filming to do so hopefully on the weekend. It’s for to be a bit entertaining at least.
Crazy build, you should be proud of yourself, I give you a 10/10 ❤
Hey can i get this fuel tank Not handmade .... How much will be the price plz reply
I got 1985 Cr500 for you to restore.
I split cases and the rod bolt stretched and broke after at 60mph. It broke cases. Ive always wondered it torquing in 40° garage resulted in overtorquing.
Crank had sludge in it BTW. Just sad about wasting the parts.
@@philiphorner31 this project is on the back burner for the moment. I don’t know why. If my head is elsewhere I’m not risking this restoration until I’m ready. The case will be split due to overwhelming comments about sludge so that is the next unpleasant job. It’s always a risk when splitting old cases.. as you have pointed out!
5:33 why are you removing the weld? Will it make it weaker if the weld metal is thinner? It's the first thing I've questioned, so you're doing great 😆 I watched your CB125 video and liked how much you fitted in to a 22 minute video. I've been curious about buying a non runner and trying to get it going as a hobby.
Thanks for your comment. Alloy welds done to the correct current as this one was melt bonds all the way through so it’s not a problem to remove the excess which if you think about it is not assisting in the bond at all so removing it is a no brainer.
@@MyRestoration1 thanks for replying. I like your videos because they are useful and interesting. And your machinery and tools are nice. Looking forward to more videos.
Did you ever get the little bit of gaskets out of the CR500 engine, that fell into the engine, when you was cutting it?
It never fell in
